Is The Sky Falling?

construction sign

No. Of course not. But some days, it does certainly seem as if the world is falling apart.

America and its ever ravenous energy sector is screaming “damn the torpedos” and moving ahead with all sorts of net-energy sink biofuels and lying to the American people about the trade-off between using land for fuel versus food. We have mass deforestation in South America, destruction of the Amazon, prairies, peat bogs and some beautiful mountaintop removal work. Lakes and rivers are drying up in China and not a single economist is talking about any action other than full steam ahead.

A war monger and a wolf killer have the White House in their sights are are preparing to squeeze the trigger. But does it even matter who the hell is in the White House? Considering the last eight years, yes, I suppose it does. At least in terms of how fast everything deteriorates, otherwise they’re really all just puppets to power.

And last but not least, the bigwigs are getting a socialized bailout on Wall Street. Funded by us little guys. What a scheme it is, a Ponzi scheme if there ever was one. I keep trying to come up with some words to describe how I feel about it, but I can’t. I’m still just sitting here with my fucking mouth open.

One thing is clear, though. You have to pay taxes in order to fund this sort of shit (along with the militarization), and if don’t pay your taxes their government lackies put you in jail. Not even the Mafia was ever this bold.

This is no democracy. This is a fascist oligarchy cloaking itself in an expensive but diaphanous suit.

Yet, we press on, mired in ignorance. Millions upon millions will turn on CNN tonight so they can be spoon fed sound bites, more lies and then turn to Entertainment Television for the latest Hollywood gossip and blather. Frankly, we should stop pretending and go ahead and move the political reporting to E as well.

And then there’s the Mets bullpen. Don’t even get me started on that one. Jesus H. Christ.

Bad news? No, not really. It’s actually all pretty good, except for the mountains, prairies, peat bogs and rivers, but they’ll recover and survive man’s folly. (The Mets may not survive the wrath of their fans, however.) The rest is all little more than the final act of a bad play. The dying, final gasps of an out-of-control party where the liquor finally ran out. The U.S. government finally reaching the point of utter ridiculousness (how else can you characterize the Palin-McCain ticket), the financial markets caving in on top of themselves and hopefully soon $5.00 per gallon gas. Once Americans finally see just how ludicrous our government really is perhaps they’ll start to look elsewhere for solutions. Maybe it’s going to take a Palin Presidency to finally launch us over the edge, tumbling downward and finally landing on an old tried and true rock called community based democracy.

Then, and only then, will we get some peace and quiet and be able to focus on building something with real substance.

So, this is the demolition. Next comes the construction. Until then, sit back, enjoy some prodigious amounts of vino, good cheese and chocolates. And if you’re a Cubs fan, congrats. You’ve clinched and don’t have to wait till next year.

If there is equal protection under law, then the bailout should be for ALL. Let’s wipe the slate clean for everyone. Not just for those that invested and lost.

Let’s declare a jubilee year for ALL Americans where no one owes anyone anything and let’s see how the economy leaps!

Lost is lost. Suck it up wealthy bankers. You invested and lost. Not my job to pay off your bad decisions.

Just a thought and yes I know it will never happen.
