The Enemy of The State
Well, this quickly ended my retirement. Democracy Now and Common Dreams are both reporting that the U.S. military is now involved in infiltrating and spying on U.S. based peace and activist groups, especially those meddlesome anarchists.
The military must really be bored with the jihad threat if they’re now spying on little old anarchists with dirt under their fingernails and produce in their messenger bags. Then again, anyone preaching peace, democracy and community is of course a threat to those who make their living off of war, totalitarianism and global domination.
Do I lie awake at night terrified of anarchists? No, but I do think quite a bit about state-sponsored terrorism carried out by sociopaths in uniform. Seems the real terrorists are running out of legitimate enemies and the anarchists are making progress!
Not just now. They always have been.
The irony is that the terrorists in the united States control access to information and get to define the enemy, the prerogative of the state.
Anarchists are the ultimate enemy because we understand the inherent illegitimacy of the state and we spread the word.
“Fantastic doctrines (like Christianity or Islam or Marxism) require unanimity of belief. One dissenter casts doubt on the creed of millions. Thus the fear and the hate; thus the torture chamber, the iron stake, the gallows, the labor camp, the psychiatric ward.” Ed Abbey
That’s very true. I should have said “…once again.”
I think a lot more people that will admit have very anarchistic leanings. They’re just afraid to be associated with the word and being labeled by The Powers That Be.
There are so many people fed up with the government right now, but they simply cannot conceive of an alternative like anarchism. Even progressives are dismissive, but it’s going to be interesting to see how many progressives drop out of the centralized government camp once Obomba gets finished.
Scary shit… I read about COINTELPRO back when, and it turns my stomach to think that it might still be kicking.
